Over the years the 4-20 mA transmitter has become an accepted standard technique for transmitting information between field I/O and the control area. New network type transmission schemes are trying to become “the” standard. Meanwhile there are thousands of I/O points and associated control components that will continue to



use the analog current loop method for transmitting data.
